Dear Sisters and Brothers of Kavanaugh UMC:
Grace and peace be with each of you. This past week as Annual Conference came to an end, I sat with Alan and Pam on Wednesday morning on the conference floor awaiting the reading of the appointments. As anticipated, when Greenville, Kavanaugh was read, my name followed. There’s something about hearing one’s name called that confirms what one already knows. Since then we have been working at getting our belongings (read: “stuff”) in boxes ready to move to Greenville on June 20.
This will be my sixth appointment in the North Texas Conference. I was ordained Deacon in 1992, and spent that year on the south coast of England as a circuit minister in the British Methodist Church. Returning to north Texas, I served as Associate Minister at FUMC, Mesquite, until 1997, when I was appointed Pastor-in-Charge at Casa View UMC in east Dallas. In the summer of 2003, we returned to England for the next three years serving in the Reading & Silchester circuit. Coming back again to north Texas in the summer of 2006, we were sent to the Honey Grove charge serving McKenzie and Forest Hill UM Churches. On Wednesday, June 18th, at noon, I will technically become pastor of Kavanaugh UMC. Every place I have been sent has been a joy and a blessing, and I anticipate that that will continue with our becoming a part of the Kavanaugh community. We have been warmly greeted by the Leadership Council, Pastor/Parish Relations Committee, Trustees and staff, and we arelooking forward to getting to know each of you.
My husband, David, and I are now empty nesters, but between us we have six children (I’m the mother of four) and six grandchildren (the oldest is five years; the youngest, four months) scattered across the US and the EU. We enjoy getting together with them whenever possible.
I am grateful to be part of the UM connection in North Texas, and I look forward to growing in faith and mission with you at Kavanaugh UMC. This coming Sunday, June 22nd, will be our first Sunday with you as we gather to worship together assured of God’s creative spirit among us forming us into a new community. See you then.
Blessings,
Ann Barton
