Help
for those in our community who are in need of financial and spiritual
support due to financial crisis, family difficulties, natural
disaster, or cultural circumstances is addressed by Kavanaugh
UMC and, more informally, by the efforts and generosity of our
members. The church also provides service to the local area by
offering meeting space and encouragement to several organizations.

FISH
Hunt County Shared Ministries, known as FISH, provides
a food pantry and utility assistance for families in need. KUMC
provides financial support for FISH. Church members also contribute
non-perishable food for the food pantry using a collection box
in the church.

Salvation Army
The Salvation Army provides support services for
individuals and families in need. KUMC donates food, clothing, and
money from benevolence funds to help the Salvation Army serve
others.

Habitat for Humanity
The local chapter of this international Christian
housing initiative helps put families into their own homes by
rehabbing or building new homes with the help of community volunteers
and the families themselves. KUMC’s financial support of
the local Habitat group helps fund building materials and other
monetary needs of the organization.

WIN, Women In Need
WIN operates a shelter and life-changing assistance
for women who have been victims of family violence. In addition
to providing financial aid for the organization, KUMC provides
supplies for the shelter. The church also shares the excess bounty
from our fellowship dinners, the annual Christmas dinner, the
Solid Rock Café, and other events with the shelter’s
residents.

Kavanaugh Kare Bears

Through the generosity of our members, Kavanaugh is able to help
start the healing when a child is the victim of an accident or
a crime. Members donate cuddly teddy bears for distribution by
the Greenville Police Department as they interact with children
who have been involved in emergency situations. Kavanaugh Kare
Bears give frightened children a new friend to help them weather
their crisis.

Follies
The Follies fundraiser stages a musical and comedy
review every two years, donating funds to a different charity
each time. Kavanaugh members have been instrumental in planning,
organizing, and performing in the show, and encouraging others
in (and outside) the church to participate and/or buy tickets
for the show, adding to the monies collected for a variety of
causes benefiting the local community.

Destination Imagination
The mind-boggling spontaneity and creativity of
young people finds a rewarding outlet in Destination Imagination.
Formerly known as Odyssey of the Mind, DI encourages youngsters
to think in new ways and move in new directions to compete in
problem-solving exercises. KUMC is proud host the brainstorming,
planning, and practicing of two local DI teams. The church provides
permanent meeting and creating space for the groups.

Leadership Greenville
Designed to create future community leaders through
a series of classes that stress personal growth and leadership
development while acquainting participants with community resources
and liabilities, this Chamber of Commerce sponsored course addresses
local problems and works toward solutions. KUMC has provided meeting
space for 2004/2005 Leadership Greenville sessions.

This Kavanaugh based crafters guild reaches out
to the community, welcoming everyone who enjoys crafting and chatting.
